Yellow pepper is a member of the Solanaceae family, genus Apsicum, species annuum (Thuphairo, 2019). It is a sweet pepper, originating from the same plant as the red and green pepper. These different colours are determined by the stage of ripening. The pepper is green when not yet ripe. As it ripens, it turns yellow then orange then red.
It is native to the central regions of the American continent, namely Central America, southern North America, and northern South America (Nolte, 2012).
